Having sold my business in 2019 I wanted a hands-off, worry free investment strategy.  I worked with FAs and stuck most of my equity in an established wealth management fund with a bank, which promised respectable returns with low risk.  Then covid hit and the Russia invaded Ukraine.  My portfolio nose-dived and the wealth managers claimed there was nothing they could do, along with the FAs. I realised I was just part of a standardised investment approach in which Wealth Managers and FAs took their fees and pedalled the limited financial instruments they’re enable to promote to customers.  

Initially I thought I could learn to trade myself, but after a couple of months and increasingly sleepless nights I realised this was not for me, so sought out companies which could trade on my behalf.  I did get my fingers burnt!! There are companies which promise much and appear valid, but I learnt the hard way that you really need to do your research and be super cautious.  Then I came across TPP, which were in their infancy at the time and reached out to them and had a call with Lane.  What I liked about TPP was that my investment resided with Interactive Brokers, so whilst they controlled the trades they had no access to the funds which left me in control. I can invest as much as I like and withdraw this when it suits me.  Having had a number of bad experiences trying to find a company which can invest on my behalf, I count myself lucky to have come across TPP when I did - and have had 3 years now of returns which I’m more than happy with and most importantly for me, I don’t worry as they are excellent at keeping me informed.  Last year I opened up a second account with TPP to invest monies from my SSAS pension which has been hugely beneficial for me as regulation keeps limiting investments for SSAS pensions and this has also performed well.  

I’ve learned that TPP have a much more pro-active approach to the markets.  They are not day traders, but they are also more active than traditional investment banks and are only ever a phone call away and happy to chat through different strategies that suit your personal requirements.

My investing experience is very limited, as I have spent most of my life running our business. It was not until 2022 that we actually had some significant funds to invest.

We looked at traditional investment managers, and they seemed to offer little in the way of returns. We also looked at copy trading, trading bots, and TPP.

We trialed several options with small amounts of cash and left the rest on deposit.

What is left? We use copy traders, and these provide a good return, although it is very US-dependent and is quite volatile. TPP’s return, in contrast, is less volatile and less dependent on the US, but the returns have been the best of all we chose.

I would recommend TPP as a cost-effective investment platform, giving good returns and more stability.

So I have been with TPP for a number of months, and I have to admit I was dubious whether Lane and the team were as good as their word. I have invested with wealth managers for years, some better than others. But lately it has been a waste of time, some days up, then back to square one,  or of course worse. The money just sitting there, not working, and always being told the same thing “Im here to remove the noise". Well I got fed up with the silence - literally- and I am happy to say, it’s been worth moving. The model TPP are using really has worked. I only wish I could move my pension over too ( Lane, when can I do that?) There are always risks, but even through a volatile market Im still seeing very positive outcomes. I would say ‘fingers crossed’ but this isn’t just luck!!!!!
