MARKETS CRASHED. PORTFOLIOS FELL. SO WHAT DID WE DO?

One day markets surge. The next they collapse. Welcome to investing in 2026. But what separates an investment manager isn't what happens in the markets. It's how they respond.

What a difference 24 hours makes!

On Wednesday, global markets rallied sharply. Investors everywhere enjoyed a welcome recovery.

For TPP, it was a particularly good day.

And we explained why.

We'd spent the previous couple of months carefully scaling into European markets as they fell, buying exposure at increasingly attractive prices and positioning ourselves for a recovery.

When that recovery arrived, our portfolios responded strongly.

But here's the important part.

As markets surged on Wednesday, we were doing something else.

Taking profits. Reducing exposure. Booking gains. And preparing for the next opportunity.

Then Thursday arrived.

And Wall Street went into meltdown.

‍

From euphoria to panic in 24 hours.....

US technology stocks were hammered.

The Nasdaq 100 plunged approximately 6.4%, while the S&P 500 lost around 4.4%, according to the market figures we reviewed.

AI stocks were particularly badly hit, with renewed concerns about valuations, technology spending and the sustainability of the enormous AI investment boom.

The selling spread beyond America, dragging sentiment lower across global markets.

Wednesday: Investors celebrating.

Thursday: Investors wondering what on earth just happened.

Welcome to the markets!

And here's where I want to make something absolutely clear.

TPP portfolios fell too.

Of course they did.

We still had market exposure. We're not immune to falling prices, and we certainly don't pretend to be.

But the interesting question isn't whether portfolios fell.

It's what we did before, during and after the fall.

‍

We can't control the markets. But we CAN control our decisions.

On Wednesday, as markets rallied, we reduced selected positions and locked in profits.

On Thursday, as markets fell sharply, we began rebuilding some of those positions at lower prices.

In other words, we were buying back exposure we'd reduced just 24 hours earlier.

Does that mean we've caught the bottom?

Absolutely not.

Markets could fall further. Our portfolios could experience further losses.

But we believe that buying exposure at more attractive prices, when the opportunity and risk justify it, puts us in a stronger position for a potential recovery.

That's the difference between simply watching markets move and actively managing your exposure to them.

We're not going to get every decision right.

But we're not going to sit on our hands simply because markets are uncomfortable either.

And that brings me to something else.

‍

Don't just take our word for it. Listen to our clients.

We can talk all day about our investment philosophy, our four approaches to market, our subscription model and why we believe the traditional wealth management industry needs disrupting.

But ultimately, what matters is the experience of the people who actually invest with us.

And we've been fortunate to receive some tremendous feedback.

Here are a few examples.

‍

Robin Hilton: The difference between sitting tight and taking action...

Robin had previously invested through traditional wealth managers. When markets fell during major global events, he became frustrated with the response he received.

Since joining TPP, he's particularly valued the proactive approach, communication and control over his investments.

As Robin explains:

"They are not day traders, but they are also more active than traditional investment banks"

That distinction is exactly what we're talking about.

‍

Marcus Atkins: Transparency and genuine access...

Marcus wanted a clearer, more modern way to invest.

What particularly appealed to him was being able to understand his portfolio without having to manage every individual investment himself.

He also highlighted something we take enormous pride in:

"I appreciate the availability of their time and attention to answer questions or discuss my portfolio."

Because managing investments isn't simply about performance.

It's also about communication, transparency and trust.

‍

Kumar Muthalagappan OBE: A different approach..

Kumar has invested through several investment houses over the years.

His feedback on TPP's approach, values and involvement was particularly encouraging.

He described the difference between his experience with TPP and other investment houses as:

"like comparing a Rolls Royce with a Toyota!"

We'll happily take that comparison! 😃

‍

Claire Lawrence: Frustrated with the old model...

Claire had spent years investing with traditional wealth managers.

She'd grown frustrated with disappointing performance and the feeling that little was being done.

After joining TPP, she highlighted the difference in our approach, particularly during volatile markets.

Her conclusion?

"There are always risks, but even through a volatile market Im still seeing very positive outcomes."

And that's an important point.

There are always risks.

But how those risks are managed matters.

‍

We're building something different.

These are just a handful of the experiences shared by TPP clients.

And while individual outcomes differ, there's a common theme running through their feedback.

Transparency. Communication. A proactive investment approach. And a business genuinely trying to do things differently.

We built TPP because we believed investors deserved an alternative to the traditional model.

Four approaches to the market.

Professionally managed investment strategies.

No traditional percentage-based management fee.

No performance fee.

Just a transparent subscription model, with investments held at Interactive Brokers.

And a team that believes managing investments means making decisions, not simply collecting fees and hoping markets rise.

‍

So what happens next?

After the extraordinary volatility of the past few days, nobody can say with certainty.

Perhaps markets rebound sharply.

Perhaps the selling continues.

Perhaps we see another few weeks of this madness.

But our approach won't change.

We'll continue assessing opportunities, adjusting exposure, managing risk and making decisions based on the market conditions in front of us.

Wednesday was a very good day.

Thursday was a very bad day.

Neither day, in isolation, defines our investment approach.

What matters is what we do consistently over months and years.

Because at TPP, our objective isn't to win every day.

It's to build portfolios that have the potential to outperform their benchmarks over time, while managing the risks along the way.

And that is precisely what we'll continue working towards.
